Natural Color Inspiration: The Sherwin-Williams Pura Vida Palette
The annual color forecasts offered by major paint manufacturers sometimes prove to have remarkable staying power. Such is the case with the Pura Vida palette from Sherman Williams. Introduced as part of the Sherman Williams 2016 color forecast, this collection has remained popular with consumers in the following years.
The collection is aimed to be soothing and engaging, with a collection of livable neutrals and accents. It is said to be inspired by social engagement and the human side of technology, in stark contrast to the bright and giddy colors that dominated fashion and decor in 2015.
According to Jackie Jordan, director of color for Sherwin-Williams, the color palette was in response to “seeing people embrace advancing technology, while also returning to the quality, personal connections and handmade craftsmanship from years past.” Jordan goes on to say:
We forecasted colors that provide a range of inspiration for homeowners to create spaces that surround them with the things that ignite their passions and make them feel happy and healthy.
We are awakening from the recession, hungry for new orderliness, ready to feed the spirit, make memories and savor the moment. Pura Vida is driven by health and wellness, natural healing and unplugging, and the colors in this palette speak to environments where we feel balanced and at peace.
8 Shades Based on Natural Materials
Sherwin-Williams Pura Vida takes inspiration from natural elements, such as stone, alabaster, and sand, as well as natural fibers, such as cotton and jute. These elements that remind us to live well, be well, and stay well are vital to creating spaces to unplug. The colors include honed and sheer tones, marble hues, warm grays, khaki tones, and blushed neutrals.
Building a neutral color palette with these tones can give you a relaxing space that still feels lush and luxurious. Pair these soft tones with deep natural woods and dark metallic accents for a balanced space.
The Pura Vida color palette includes 10 shades:
- Ramie (SW 6154)
- Ancient Marble (SW 6162)
- Alabaster (SW 7008)
- Unfussy Beige (SW 6043)
- Doeskin (SW 6044)
- Wool Skein (SW 6148)
- Neutral Ground (SW 7568)
- Useful Gray (SW 7050)
Ramie (SW 6156)
Ramie is a medium-toned neutral paint color that would be gorgeous as the inspiration for a monochromatic color scheme. Use Ramie as your mid-point color, choosing lighter and darker colors to complete your scheme.
Ancient Marble (SW 6162)
Ancient Marble has a hint of green, without the blue undertone found in sage green. This is a relaxing and easy-to-use neutral if you’re ready to move past beige.
Urbane Bronze (SW 70480)
Gray Area (SW 70520)
Gray Area is a delightful beige color. Some beige neutrals can be too warm for a room, so the hint of gray undertone in this beige cools things down.
Unfussy Beige (SW 6043)
Alabaster (SW 7008)
Neutral Ground (SW 7568)
Useful Gray (SW 7050)
Useful Gray is a warm and sophisticated neutral color. If you love gray but don’t like the coolness of it, a gray with a hint of warmth like this one could fit the bill. Pair Useful Gray with a creamy off-white and deep espresso brown for a classic palette that suits a variety of decorating styles.
